9/21/05 - Last conversation with Bernard: the rods had been removed from his arm
and he felt that he had turned a corner and on his way to recovery. He
plans to attend the captain's meeting in Fort Lauderdale. ____________________________________________________________________

9/21/05 - The latest news from our orange beach Table is that our Brothers had
received minor damage and all are fine. National Captain Ursa Major aka.
Tom Collier jokingly suggested to Doug Henckel a.k.a. Graybeard the
Captain of the Orange beach Table that he should change is Brother Name
to Bull-eye as several hurricanes have tried to displace the Table since
its formation. Here at F.W. we like your fancy footwork Graybeard keep
dodging those babies we look forward to seeing you in Fort Lauderdale.

The US Brotherhood would like to thank all our Brothers for the
notes of concern and support for the victims of Katrina.

9/21/05 From Bernard
To: Tony Olmer
Subject: Pamir

Tony,

reading your editorial in TTP, I thought you might be interested to
know that I was aboard the Liberty Ship "Vire", belonging to
"Compagnie Generale Transatlantique" , captain Contzler, caught in
huuricane Carrie no more than 15 miles from the Pamir. We actually
attempted to leave our heave to position to try and help but lost in
the process our life boats, and everything else on deck, so the
captain decided to resume the heave to position and wait for the
wqeather to improve. We eventually reached Le Havre safely with a few
hundred rivets missing on the portion of the hull located between
Hold N 3 and the engine room.

8/13/05 : Brise Galets / sur le pavé! After a biking fall, Bernard is at the Virginia Beach General Hospital and is doing OK. He has multiple bruises and scrapes, 3 broken ribs, a badly sprained right wrist and came out of a 3 hour surgery to rebuild a severely damaged right elbow. He has a large appliance on his right arm (6 to 8 weeks then rehab) but his mind is sharp - he was giving me directions of things he needed to have done since he would not be able to leave on Sunday for his long anticipated ride in the Pyrenees. Frankly, his silly looking bicycle helmet saved him.
